Wellp. Here it is. Episode 0 of the Equestria Weekly Report is now up on the Equestria Weekly page.
I'm not sure what to think about this.. I feel like I should've
done better, but, well, after lots of effort, work, a ton of things in my
way, and limited so much in my life right now that I probably shouldn't be trying to make a
web series at all, I'm going for it.
Please note that this is basically the first video I ever shot
and edited. I would've liked it to look better, but, well, the
transitions either made it look cheesy, or even more cheap, so I left it
as straight jump-cuts. Improving the visuals/audio further in editing
would take more advanced editing skills than I have. And I did my best
in front of the camera as well. As is, and trust me on this as it is hard to believe, I was a lot worse before. I was much more monotone, and locked up when I tried to give my very first line.
Just keep in mind this is my first video, and keep it to creative criticisms if you can. Just.. please be kind. I already know the flaws, and chewed myself out more than any foul-mouthed comment could top; what I want to know is how to improve from here.
I'll be trying to release episodes bi-weekly. I would like to do it
weekly, but there will be a lot more work involved in a regular
episode, given that I look up information over every topic, and it'll require a lot more writing, filming, and editing.. I have college, I have other problems, I am donating plasma to
keep myself in decent food, and it would take at least 4 or 5 days of
work to get the future episodes out, which will have a lot more than
what is going on here.. and I only have a few hours a week
that I can film on, so I am terribly limited.
I originally wanted to try to monetize on this aggressively, but
as the amateur qualities of the show became clear to me.. I no longer felt
comfortable with that. I will stick to having a donation button and blip.tv ad
revenue. I will later have a Spreadshirt store, if only because myself and some people I know want some of my designs, and depending on how things go I may consider a Kickstarter if people start liking the series in large numbers.
With your views and potential direct support, I'll slowly improve
the show with the goal of making a living off of video production. We're probably a ways away from that, but consider it the long-term goal.
For now, I'm just an amateur who spent every last bit of his spare money, against his better judgment, on a low-end camcorder, microphone, and some studio lighting. Then started shooting a web series in his room with a fantasy of making a career out of video production with this as the shooting-off point. I really look up to James Rolfe and Doug Walker, and knew how to earn money off of something like this... ultimately what it comes down to: audience size.
If you can pull in an audience in the 10k a month range, you're not doing too bad and getting a decent bit of money from it. 100k, and you're living off of it. Not to mention direct donations and things like t-shirts giving you some other revenue from that size of an audience.
This was just Episode 0 where I summarize the bronies as I see them, and lay down some rules. Future episodes will be longer, more informative, and probably at least a little more elaborate.
I have already chosen topics and looked up some facts and details about them, and need to get on the script next, and see if I can film it next week, then get it out the following..
Episode 1 topic list:
1. Equestria Daily
2. Derpyhoovesnews
3. Derpy Hooves
4. Equestria Beats
5. FiMFiction
6. Welovefine
7. Madmax
8. Fighting is Magic
9. Lauren Faust
